A brief review of the successful first Sheffield Carers Roadshow
Our thanks to everyone involved with the recent Sheffield Carers Roadshow. This includes everyone from the 30+ organisations that had stalls plus the many volunteers who helped on the day. More importantly a massive THANK YOU to the hundreds of unpaid carers that came to the event. Use the link for a short review plus copy of The Show Guide and some photos.

Medequip able to advise many carers at the Sheffield Roadshow
Medequip had a stall at the Roadshow. They work with Sheffield City Council and NHS South Yorkshire to provide assistive living equipment in this area. Medequip also provide a retail service for those who wish to purchase or rent equipment themselves. Use the link below the image for a copy of their poster on our website or click here for details of their centre at Rotherham.

Supporting carers with opportunities for some activity and respite
Golf in Society also had a stall at the Roadshow. They reimagine golf clubs as health hubs to help boost physical, mental and emotional well-being for carers and loved ones living with a diagnosis. This provides a unique opportunity for activity and respite. Use the link below the image for a copy of their poster on our noticeboard or you can click here to visit their own website.

Take a look at our calendar of events for the month of November
We organise and/or help organise a range of activities and support groups around Sheffield. These events take place on various dates during the month, so we thought it would be useful to have a calendar on our website. Use the link below the image to visit the calendar webpage, which also has links to other pages with more information about all the events.

We're hiring - would you like to be our new Volunteer Coordinator?
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in recruiting, supporting, organising, and training volunteers to deliver our activities. The role will suit people with experience of volunteer support and recruitment, plus database proficiency, and strong communication skills. Use the link below the image for more information about the role and how to apply by the 12 November deadline.

The next Carers Stroke Support Group meeting is on 15 November
Carers, family, and friends are welcome to join this event to gain information, advice, and support from the team, plus other carers and relatives. The stroke support team will make a presentation on the topic, discuss concerns, answer questions and provide information. Use the link below the image for more details from the poster on the noticeboard on our website.

Parkinson's UK have an online Support Group for Carers
These informal online sessions are facilitated by volunteers with caring experience and offer the chance to talk with people in similar situations, share experiences, and support each other. The group aims to provide mutual support to those living with or caring for a person diagnosed with Parkinson’s within (approx) the last 3 years. Use the link for details of how to book a place.

Electronic Assistive Technology report launched on 23 November
Electronic Assistive Technology enables people with disabilities both physical and cognitive to have a level of independent control. A report based on work undertaken in South Yorkshire looking at the care pathways for EAT is being held on 23 November. There will also be workshops around the key findings of the report on workforce, provision and awareness raising.

Make an appointment to meet STT staff at our office on Mondays
Talking Therapies (formerly known as IAPT) provide a range of free NHS talking therapies for anyone aged 18 or over who lives in Sheffield. Use the link for details about how they help thousands of people in the city who are struggling with their feelings. Talking Therapies have staff based at our city centre office each Monday and carers can request an appointment.

The Herbert Protocol can help if you care for someone with dementia
This is a national scheme adopted by South Yorkshire Police and other agencies which encourages carers and family members to compile useful key information which can save vital time in the event of a person with dementia going missing. Carers can complete an online form, then keep a copy at home to give to the police in the event of an emergency.
