Dear Friends,
The week before last, at our zoom service we were joined by our previous minister Robert and Bex his wife. It was their first wedding anniversary, and they chose to get up really early to join us for worship. It was great o have them with us, and I think that some of our number visited their church last Sunday (but they didn’t have to get up before dawn.)
A year ago, when we were in the middle of lockdown, the leadership team decided to send Robert and Bex a wedding gift. We want to give you the chance of contributing to that gift, now we are partially back in church for worship. So we will place the Carbouy out for any gifts you may wish to make. If we exceed the amount sent, we can send a supplementary first anniversary gift.
Following the driest April on record, we have had some much needed rain this week. This coming Sunday marks the start of Christian Aid week. Along with other aid agencies, Christian Aid is highlighting the Climate crisis we are in. The need for regular water supply is highlighted in many of the stories and material available on their website https://www.christianaid.org.uk/
For us, a dry April could well be followed by a wet month of May, but our temperate climate is largely benevolent with relatively mild fluctuations compared to many parts of our world. But those places which are already suffering the effects of climate change are at the forefront and are often the poorest communities with fewer resources to offset the effects of drought or flooding, or rising sea levels.
Both the Christian Aid campaign and our recent Lent course on Saving Creation are wake up calls to encourage us to be more active in playing our part, and persuading others to do so too. There is no more important issue for us.
Peace Tim
