Dear Friends,
The focus of the world is on the Cop26 meeting in Glasgow. It is the most important gathering of world leaders with the future of the planet at stake. Can, and will, all the words be translated into meaningful action?
The scientific evidence is irrefutable, unless we repent of our consumer lifestyles, our over reliance on fossil fuels, our throw away culture, then irreversible damage will have been caused.
This week the Prime Minister recently caused a stir with one of his typical headline grabbing comments about recycling. Along with other world leaders, he needs to act and take seriously the issues, put pressure on those who still deny the realities, and those who can see short term profit as the only yardstick to measure everything.
So how are you approaching Cop26?
Are you praying? I hope so. Are you actively seeking ways to change your lifestyle towards greater sustainability? I hope so. Are you willing to engage with our Eco group to help our church to increase our response? I hope so.
The opening chapters of Genesis are most relevant, expressing all the reasons why we should engage in the green agenda. We are so much more aware of the interconnectedness of everything in creation than ever. We are critically aware of our place in creation and our responsibility to work with God and each other for sustainability. Losing our focus on God’s pattern and intention and passion for the world and all its people, risks literally everything.
This is not something we can just leave to others it is for all of us to repent. Turn around. Refocus our priorities. Small achievable steps do make a difference, and sharing them with others encourages more to repent too.
Peace Tim
